Upon arriving home and turning on my phone tonight, I received an offer to trade the Jaguar for a Truck. From what I can see its a single cab, long bed 1500, with a v8. I do not know the year/mileage/etc. I might do it.
Now, I know the styling is very, ehm, polarizing, but I actually put these in my top 5 modern-ish trucks looks wise. So looks aside is there anything to look out for? Anything to sprint away from? I’ve briefly researched and came up with transmission and not much else. A good looking 2nd gen for your time.
Is this going to be the vehicle to get me into trucks?
Edit: Found it on CL here

Well problem A: Salvage title
Problem B: I believe these things eat transmissions like none-other in automatic form.
Other than that, I’m not sure. I always liked these though.

I see that now. Though tbh, it doesn’t bother me too much. As long as it drives straight and the gears don’t slip I may pull the trigger.

Yeah, I'd pass. That truck just looks like it's been abused to me. Mismatched tires don't inspire confidence that other things have been taken care of.

Oooo. Good call on the mismatched tires. I didn’t even catch that one.

The 4wd systems in these had problems as well. A friend of mine had a brand new ‘95 Ram that broke every time he put it in 4wd. Every. Single. Time. It’s been nearly 20 years since he got rid if it, so I can’t remember what the problems were anymore. That truck made a Ford guy out of him.
Damn good looking trucks though.

Shoot. I’m dissapointed to hear about your friend's bad experience, though also surprised nobody has given me a raft of shit over the looks. I always thought the popular opinion was that dodges are pretty ugly.
I’m still probably going to at least give it a look, though I don’t have high hopes. I’m tired of sitting on this Jag and it’s about time I either fix it, or find it a new home. (I really don’t want to fix it right now).

I’d look at it if it’s close. Just make sure you try 4wd before you sign anything.
As for the looks, a lot of people “blame” these Dodge’s big rig styling for the subsequent bloating of full size trucks, but I think that’s a load of crap. They weren’t any bigger that it’s contemporaries, in fact this body style was never even available as a crew cab at all. They did have some crazy tall suspensions though! 4wd Rams always looked lifted from the factory to me.

Huh, I haven’t heard that, though it makes sense since it was designed based on 60s trucks and semis. Usual complaints I’ve heard are that it has no style, or that the big cross hair grill is ugly. I love it. Especially in the blue color up top it looks like a big viper.

On second thought and seeing that your jag is borked. Go ahead.

I’m thinking it would be alright since a well-running vehicle is better than a barely running vehicle. Though if it needs any fixes they can’t be too big. I acquired the 300$ mk viii since writing that ad and have my hands full.
Basically I don’t care about looks but if anything big is wrong mechanically it’s a big nope.

Yeah, I’m with you, these are great looking trucks, and I know a lot of others who agree. The version up top is a real pants tightener for me :)

Normally I’ve heard that this generatiom Ram is the truck that changed styling forever by actually looking good and making style a factor. It’s not ugly, people just hate where we have come today and trace it to the Ram.
But yeah I remember hearing transmissions were a problem. And the MPGs are terrible. So if you don’t actually need a truck with an 8 foot bed and only two seats, it's probably not the most practical choice.
